Follow these ten tips to hear those magic words: “Yes, I would be happy!”

Making the “Ask”.

1. Phrase your request in terms of benefits for the listener. Talk about “what is for them.” Why benefit from what I read in saying yes to your request? (She wanted to bring her happy.’s Not about her, is about me.)

2. Be positive. Do not focus on why someone should not say “yes” or the negative aspects of their acceptance of your order. Focus on the positive. Can the experience be fun? High profile? Generate new knowledge? Lead to a promotion? Add to own resume? Give all participants a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction? Will it make the world a better place? Focus on the positive.

3. Show respect and encouragement for their candidate. By understanding this capacity, past history, personality or other qualities that in turn feel special. It’s flattering, and claiming to be invited to participate.

4. Give precise and clear expectations of what the position or function required. It is tempting to notify people what they want to hear, let alone make clear what is easy or fun, or undersell the time commitment required. NO! Provide a reasonable explanation for your request. You do not want to deal under false pretenses.

5. Be sure to listen to issues or concerns of the listener. What properties are concerned? How will base its decision properties? Strive to assess their needs, their fears and limitations.
